Our Beloved Jay-T; Family Protector and Friend

“The Power of the Dog”

by Rudyard Kipling

Author Unknown

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie—
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find—it’s your own affair—
But . . . you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!).
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve.
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in—Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane,
I would walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again.

No farewell words were spoken
No time to say "Goodbye"
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.

My heart still aches with sadness,
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to love you,
No one can ever know.

But now I know you want me,
to morn for you no more;
To remember all the happy times,
life still has much in store.

Since you'll never be forgotten,
I pledge to you today,
A hollowed place within my heart
is where you'll always stay.

I'm Still Here

Author Unknown

Friend, please don't mourn for me; I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day; and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I'm always near. I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart; as long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I'll never wander out of your sight; I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach; I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.

I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around; and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond, The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring, The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine, and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there's no one to love you, you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees, and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep; and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face. Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!
